Bonny Beethoven

A Scottish air by . . . Ludwig von Beethoven? Dear Reader may be forgiven for supposing that someone has lost his marbles.

In fact, it turns out that Beethoven was a lover of the folk genre, and took his own stabs at over 160 popular ditties over the years.

To demonstrate, here are Trio 1690, with soprano Elisa Rabanus, performing The Sweetest Lad was Jamie:

Dramatically, it is a sad tale of love spurned, lost, and lamented. Musically, it is simple but compelling, and bonny as bonny can be!
